Any biological process involves the synchronized interaction of the different biochemical, physical, and mechanical factors in a biosphere. This fact has led to the emergence of a body of knowledge centered on the connection between biophysical processes and biocenotic interactions. The understanding of these interactions is based on the study of ecosystem biogeochemical cycles, and the connection between natural processes on Earth and living organisms is the subject of the current Cosmoscience (see Glossary), the scientific study of the Universe and its biosphere. Recent research has focused on clarifying the range of conditions that are characteristic of Earths planet, and the evolving state of the planet and its life have been covered in studies of the Earth system over the past few decades. The global change including climate change, changes in the land system, and biotic interactions is directly related to environmental factors and the resulting social and economic changes. 27 A recent rapid increase in the number of the scientific studies on biogeochemistry suggests that the development of fundamental knowledge will be advantageous for the establishment of the new social and natural systems and will lead to innovations of technologies and management of environmental issues, such as the effects of emissions on air and water. In this workshop, we presented recent advances in the studies of biogeochemical processes and their importance to the impact and response to climate change.
In December 2005, the first International Conference on Biophysics was held in Italy. An even stronger reaction to this trend was marked in 2011, when the International Biophysical Society (IBPS) announced that it was launching the Journal of Biophysics, dedicated to the journal of Biophysics. An IBPS Editorial Board was formed to define the policy and direction of the journal. The editorial philosophy is to attract quality papers in the broad areas of physics and biology and to publish papers that are of interest to an international readership.
